Keep yourself far from "theology" but focus on Jesus

Wu Siu Yan

The following comes out from a discussion with a preacher who is influenced by theology, which I am strongly against, for I believe nothing but learn and walk the teachings of Jesus, imitate Jesus in his acts as described in [Matthew] [Mark] [Luke] [John], rely on and trust whole-heartedly in Jesus without wavering, and endure to the end.

  1. [Jermiah 18] On mud in Jehovah's hand
  4. Keep the laws/commandments, and teach others to do the same.
  5. Beware of all "theology" teachings, ....
  6. Never pursue theology
  7. The result of "theology" is the making of many Satans.
  8. Resist sin resolutely.
  9. Do not think teachings of Jehovah in the Old Testament are obsolete.
  10. Only those words in the Bible that begin with "Jesus said", "Thus said the LORD" are words of GOD

(1) [Jeremiah 18] On mud in Jehovah's hand

[Jeremiah 18:1-10] read,

The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD : "Arise, and go down to the potter's house, and there I will let you hear my words." So I went down to the potter's house, and there he was working at his wheel. And the vessel he was making of clay was spoiled in the potter's hand, and he reworked it into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to do. Then the word of the LORD came to me : "O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter has done ? says the LORD, Behold, like the clay in the potter's hand, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel. If at any time I declare concerning a nation or a kingdom, that I will pluck up and break down and destroy it, and if that nation, concerning which I have spoken, turns from its evil, I will repent of the evil that I intended to do to it. And if at any time I declare concerning a nation or a kingdom that I will build and plant it, and if it does evil in my sight, not listening to my voice, then I will repent of the good which I had intended to do to it.

From the above, we see that we have to do our part, i.e. keep the laws/commandments of GOD, then LORD will mould us good; but if we break the laws/commandments of GOD, then LORD will mould us bad.

Theology gives us the impression that we do nothing, and GOD does everything. It is totally false.

We must do our part, then GOD will do his part.

Many Christians, after belief and for years, do not read the WHOLE BIBLE. They just pick up one verse here, one verse there, mainly from Paul's letters, learn some morals, but learn a lot of "theology". They do not read Paul's letters wholly -- but one verse here, one verse there.

To show my point that they neglect GOD and Jesus, and focus on "theology", ask Christians how many of them know (i.e. can recite from heart without checking up the Bible) the "8 blessings" [Matthew 5:1-12] ? all the points in "Sermon on the Mount" [Matthew 5,6,7] ? the Ten commandments [Exodus 20] ? (Can you ?)

Therefore I urge that all Christians, once they believe in Jesus, read the New Testament, then the Old Testament (perhaps twice, to understand better), skipping difficult portions or portions they do not feel inclined to read, leaving them to later times.

After that, read the Book of Mormon. (BUT DO NOT JOIN THE MORMON CHURCH, NOR BELIEVE OTHER BOOKS FROM THE MORMON CHURCH. Only this Book of Mormon is genuine, written by the tribe of Joseph, son of Jacob, son of Abraham. New Testament (Bible) were from the tribe of Judah (Matthew, Peter, James, John, ...) and Benjamin (Paul)).

If he/she is a Chinese, I urge him/her to read the teachings of our ancestors, ( china.htm ) , because what ancient Chinese believed in -- "High King", "Heaven" --is in truth, Jehovah.

I whole-heartedly agree with you, "takes of the Holy Scripture exclusively in the heart of every new believer". But Chinese Christians must know what their ancestors taught - a race that forgets its past has no future. But warn them not to leave Jesus and follow any other human being, [John 15:6] Jesus : "If a man does not abide in me, he is cast forth as a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire and burned."

Here I have a suggestion for reading other books : use the teachings of GOD, of Jesus, as the plummet line, if a teaching reinforces what GOD/Jesus taught, accept; otherwise reject. Know a teaching is not = walk that teaching. Chinese cannot afford not to know the teachings of our ancestors.

It is a sad thing for me to see youths in Hong Kong and in China, totally ignorant of the teachings of their ancestors -- result of revolution of Sun Yat-sen, and Cultural Revolution.

If youths are keen on video games, pop music, comic books, ...., and have no knowledge whatsoever of what our ancestors taught, what chance of them becoming people acceptable to GOD ???

I have seen the documentaries from China home churches, and I grieve that many of them still think

belief in theology = belief in Jesus,

and they preach this way !! and train preachers this way !! not knowing that they are ruining the work of Jesus; for theology throw away outright all the teachings of Jesus.

None who neglects the teachings of Jesus, does not imitate the behaviour of Jesus, does not trust in and rely on Jesus whole-heartedly, yet believes in theology, will be accepted on Judgement Day.

But if they truly teach people the teachings of Jesus (in [Matthew], [Mark], [Luke], [John]), and tell them that

Jehovah first created Jesus [Revelation 3:14], a being with flesh and blood like us human,

and then through the hands of Jesus created the world,

and that Jesus will be the judge at the LAST DAY,

and that Jesus is effectively GOD (for Jehovah has given all authority in heaven and on earth to him) that all should look to and trust in Jesus,

then they are truly doing the work of Jesus.

They should preach Jesus as the disciples of Jesus did.

Read and learn from [Matthew], [Mark], [Luke], [John], how Jesus' disciples preached Jesus.

DO NOT preach Jesus the way Paul did, because Paul's knowledge of Jesus is not as good as Matthew, John, who were disciples of Jesus. But tell new believers to read Paul's letters on their own.

NEVER preach Jesus the way theologians do, otherwise, you are doing the work of Satan unknowingly.

Instead, preach "Sermon on the Mount" [Matthew 5,6,7], and other teachings of Jesus in [Matthew].

One GOD, one shepherd. And that shepherd is Jesus. Jesus : "But you are not to be called rabbi, for you have one teacher, and you are all brethren. And call no man your father on earth, for you have one Father, who is in heaven. Neither be called masters, for you have one master, the Christ. He who is greatest among you shall be your servant; ...." [Matthew 23:8-12]

Servants of Jehovah should model after Jesus in serving : washed the feet of his disciples [John 13:1-20], "servant to all, slave to all", "came not to be served but to serve, and to give my life as ransom for many" [Matthew 20:28].

Servants of Jehovah should also pay heed to Peter [1 Peter 5:2-3] : "Tend the flock of GOD that is your charge, not by constraint but willingly, not for shameful gain but eagerly, not as domineering over those in your charge but being EXAMPLES to the flock."

Remember firmly Jesus' teaching : "He who is greatest among you shall be your servant; whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted." [Matthew 23:11-12]

People who preach "theology" are giving people FALSE HOPES, because all who believe in theology will be rejected at Judgement Day, "Many are called, few are chosen" [Matthew 22:14], "Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name ? and in thy name has cast out devils ? and in thy name done many wonderful works ? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you; depart from me, ye that work iniquity." [Matthew 7:22-23]

(4) Keep the laws/commandments, and teach others to do the same.

Jesus : "Think not that I have come to destroy the law and the prophets : I have not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For truly I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven; but whosoever shall DO AND TEACH THEM, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven." [Matthew 5:17-19]

Jehovah has made a very valuable promise in [Exodus 20:5-6] " ... for I the LORD your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing mercy to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments."

Jehovah's promise of blessing is in [Leviticus 26] to those who keep laws/commandments.

Many can keep some commandments, but none can fulfill all the laws/commandments. Only those who believe that Jesus is the only begotton son of Jehovah, walk the teachings of Jesus, and imitate the behaviour of Jesus, rely on and trust whole-heartedly in Jesus without wavering, could fulfill all the laws/commandments.

LOVE GOD = keep the laws/commandments of GOD and other teachings of GOD in the Bible.

LOVE JESUS = keep the teachings of Jesus.

Jehovah's another valuable promise is to Joshua, but equally applicable to all, [Joshua 1:7-8] GOD to Joshua : "Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to do according to all the law which Moses my servant commanded you; turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go. This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you shall make your way prosperous."

Jesus DID keep the law/commandments of GOD, [John 15:10] Jesus : "If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love, EVEN AS I HAVE KEPT MY FATHER'S COMMANDMENTS, AND ABIDE IN HIS LOVE."

Hold fast Jehovah's valuable promises, just as Jesus did, and remain in the love of GOD.

(5) Beware of all "theology" teachings : that Christians need not do anything, "salvation is gift, not work" (what theologians interpret is not what Paul meant) [2 Peter 3:14-16]; everything will be done by the HOLY SPIRIT, Christians have just to fold their hands !

But what did Jesus teach us ?

Jesus ALWAYS teach us to WALK his teachings, and solemnly warn us that he who does not WALK his teachings will be like house built on sand, and cannot stand rain/wind/flood [Matthew 7:24-27].

Grace abounds only to those who learn and walk Jesus' teachings, and imitate Jesus in behaviour.

As for "return and become like a child" (read [Matthew 18:3]), Jesus taught us in [Matthew 5:6] : "Blessed are they who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled with the HOLY SPIRIT." Therefore we should look at little children, those pure, innocent, loving little children, and LEARN FROM THEM. (Also took out your old photographs when you were very, very little, and see yourself in the mirror, compare the difference.)

WALK, WALK, WALK the teachings of GOD and of Jesus, throw away all theology. Otherwise you will be confused, and confused, enticed, and enticed, ...

Jesus did not say a thing of theology in his three years of preaching, but always "walk my teachings". Jehovah did not say a thing of theology in the Old Testament, but "keep my laws/commandments, and I will bless you" [Leviticus 26].

(6) Never pursue theology, keep yourself far away from it, but rather walk the teachings of GOD and of Jesus. He who cherishes "theology" has fallen already.

If you read the letters of Peter, you will find that he talks nothing of theology but "follow the example of Jesus".

If you read the letters of John, you will find that he talks nothing of theology too, but "For this is the love of GOD, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome." [1 John 5:3]. (In short, it is, LOVE GOD = KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS. )

If you read the letter of James, you will find that he rebukes "theology", [James 2:26] "For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so faith apart from works is dead."

Paul has "philosophy" in his letters, and these "philosophy" were made use of by Satan to set up stumbling blocks for Christians.

Peter saw this danger and warned : "And count the forbearance of our Lord as salvation. So also our beloved brother Paul wrote to you according to the wisdom given him, speaking of this as he does in all his letters. There are some things in them hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other scriptures. You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, beware lest you be carried away with the error of lawless man and lose your own stability. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity." [2 Peter 3:15-18].

So you see Paul's philosophy already caused troubles in the first century [James 2:26] [2 Peter 3:15-18].

Jesus warned : "Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees" [Matthew 16:6]. Today, we should "beware of all leaven from theologians".

(7) The result of "theology" is the making of many Satans.

Once I encountered a person in the street while I was preaching Jesus, and he came to me and told me that he was god.

Many "Christians" think they are "freed", the laws/commandments of GOD do not apply to them (theology teaches them so) -- they are free to act as the Almighty Jehovah does!

They act "what are right in their own eyes", yielding to all spirits that come into their hearts, because they have prayed : "Jesus ! enter my heart! and be my saviour", and think that everything they do is directed by the HOLY SPIRIT, THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH.

They are totally un-restrained in their behaviour; whereas those who value the laws/commandments have the laws/commandments to restrain their behaviour.

Know that HOLY SPIRIT will not live in the hearts of UNCLEAN persons. Holy Spirit live only in the hearts of those who WALK the teachings of Jesus. Jesus : "If a man loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him" [John 14:23].

Compare the behaviour of Satan/rebellious angels with the behaviour of Jesus, what is the difference ?

Satan and fallen angels disregard all the laws/commandments of GOD, and act as their hearts direct them. They regard themselves "freed", "gods". They belittle their Creator and submit not to Him ("submit to GOD" means obeying GOD's laws/commandments).

But Jesus did not act like Satan/fallen angels, because Jesus DID keep the law/commandments of GOD ( and therefore remained in the love of Jehovah, read [John 15:10] Jesus : "If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love, EVEN AS I HAVE KEPT MY FATHER'S COMMANDMENTS, AND ABIDE IN HIS LOVE." ) Jesus is obedient to Jehovah.

Can you see the difference ? Can you perceive of danger of accepting theology ?

(8) Resist sin resolutely.

Jesus : "If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and throw it away; it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away; it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell." [Matthew 5:29]

Many people do not listen to Jesus on this, and believe in theology, and think yielding to temptation is no big deal. Therefore they become what Jesus said in [Matthew 12:43-35] : "When the unclean spirit has gone out of a man, he passes through waterless places, seeking rest, but he finds none. Then he says, 'I will return to my house from which I came.' And when he comes he finds it empty, swept, and put in order. Then he goes and brings with him seven other spirits more evil than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man becomes worse than the first."

Note that GOD can cut us off at any instant if we sin high-handedly, read [Acts 5:1-10] on the death of Ananias and his wife.

(9) Do not think teachings of Jehovah in the Old Testament are obsolete.

GOD taught us many physical things in the Old Testament, e.g. what are clean animals that may be eaten and what are unclean animals that may not be eaten [Leviticus 11]. Also GOD taught us many cleanliness rules vital to keeping ourselves healthy ... etc.

Many Christians who believe in theology pay no regard to all the teachings of Jehovah, consider them of no value. As a consequence, they suffer all sorts of illnesses and cancer.

True, the physical rules are not compulsory today, but that does not mean they are of no use.

Jehovah explicitly told us in [Malachi 4:4] "Remember the law of my servant Moses, the statutes and ordinances that I commanded him at Horeb for all Israel."

He who values his Heavenly Father's teachings, the laws/commandments/ordinances/statutes in the Old Testament, will keep himself in better health, and have better understanding of the world than those who belittle them.

(10) Only those words in the Bible that begin with "Jesus said", "Thus said the LORD" are words of GOD

The Bible consists of 66 small books (bound in one), and there were many authors.

Beware of religious organizations that force members to accept all statements in the Bible as words of GOD, therefore binding.

No. Jehovah gathered many books for our edification; some are for positive learning, some are for mistakes to avoid (e.g. "Ecclesiastes" by Solomon, from which we can understand the thinking of one who deserted Jehovah, who appeared to him twice, and pursued worldly things).

We should treat letters of Paul in the same way. From his beginning as a Pharisee keen on persecuting Christians, to his meeting our lord Jesus, to his conversion and belief in Jesus, to his many labour of love, .... we can understand the spiritual road he had walked, and can learn a lot from him.

But that doesn't mean he is error free, his understanding of the scripture is 100% correct ! and that all statements he made are eternal truths ! They are not. Paul made mistakes just as we human beings, who are made of dust, make mistakes. Paul understood the scripture imperfectly just as we do.

Only the words that come out from the mouth of Jehovah, and from the mouth of Jesus are eternal truths.

Also, read the whole Bible, read the whole books in the Bible, and interpret thing according to the context; do not take one statement in isolation and interpret so.

Those who have written articles should know the difficulties in putting ideas in words -- we are always conscious that we may omit some points, have some aspects not covered, or may cause mis-understanding, .... etc.

Therefore, never interpret one statement in isolation, and forget the whole context. Otherwise, you will be captive slave to crafty people who know how to manipulate words.

I write the above mainly for home churches, which are formed according to the promise of Jesus in [Matthew 18:20] Jesus : "For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them."

The churches the disciples of Jesus formed in the 1st century are home churches, it was later taken over by the Roman Catholic church, which centralizes all authority. The Catholic church is not a church of Christ (read "Early Church History" )

All I said above are suggestions only, because I am dust and fallible like everyone else. Therefore use your heart and mind, i.e. your conscience or HOLY SPIRIT in you, to decide whether to accept, or reject, or accept part and reject part .... I am responsible for all I say and do, and will give account on Judgement Day. Similarly, YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL YOUR ACTIONS ON JUDGEMENT DAY.

Pray to your Heavenly Father for guidance at ALL TIMES.

Hold fast the motto : "What is right and not who is right", because Jehovah will test us [Numbers 22:20-31] [Deuteronomy 13:1-4].

It is my wish that everyone may find acceptable before Jesus on the LAST DAY, and not be cast out; and that everyone may be blessed everyday.

I will NOT argue with anyone on "theology". My point is : learn and walk the teachings of Jesus, imitate Jesus in his acts as described in [Matthew] [Mark] [Luke] [John], rely on and trust whole-heartedly in Jesus without wavering, and endure to the end. If you disagree with my point, then we are on different roads.

For all who wish to serve Jesus, remember Xaomin's Canaan hymn 260

Put down your own banner, but exalt Jesus as king.

Put down your own banner, but exalt Jesus as king.
