Chinese should pay attention to Nutrition

In general, Chinese are hard-working. But they do not know that exertions demands energy, and energy comes from food. Can a car run without adequate fuel ?

It is a sad thing to see responsible people waste away : they would put duty/responsibility first, and care little about their physical body. Hence they become thinner and thinner. Are you able to last long if your body weakens over the years ?

People should know 1 gram of carbohydrate has 4 Kcal (1 Kcal = 1000 calorie, 1 calorie energy is the amount of energy needed to raise 1 gram of water by 1oC. Thus 1 Kcal is the energy to raise 1 kilogram of water by 1oC.) of energy, and 1 gram of fat has 9 Kcal of energy.

The following is LORD's word to Ezekiel,

LORD to Ezekiel : "Then lie upon your left side, and I will lay the punishment of the house of Israel upon you; for the number of the days that you lie upon, it, you shall bear their punishment. For I assign to you a number of days, three hundred and ninety days, equal to the number of the years of their punishment; so long shall you bear the punishment of the house of Israel. And when you have completed these, you shall lie down a second time, but on your right side, and bear the punishment of the house of Judah; forty days I assign you, a day for each year. And you shall set your face toward the siege of Jerusalem, with your arm bared; and you shall prophesy against the city. And, behold, I will put cords upon you, so that you cannot turn from one side to the other, till you have completed the days of your siege.

And you, take wheat and barley, beans and lentils, millet and spelt, and put them into a single vessel, and make bread of them. During the number of days that you lie upon your side, three hundred and ninety days, you shall eat it. And the food which you eat shall be by weight, twenty shekels a day; once a day you shall eat it. And water you shall drink by measure, the sixth part of a hin; once a day you shall drink. .... [Ezekiel 4:4-12]

Why LORD did this to Ezekiel I am not sure. But I know, from this record, that Ezekiel had been lying in bed for 430 days ( 390 + 40 ), eating only 20 shekels a day of a cake made from a mixture of flour : "wheat, barley, beans, lentils, millet, spelt". 20 shekels = 200 grams roughly (1 talent = 3000 shekels, and I do not know the exact weight of 1 "talent", and I guess it around 66 pounds.)

Ezekiel did not have to work during those days, and his diet, although only 200 grams ( = 200 * 4 Kcal = 800 Kcal) , was made from protein rich "wheat/barley/beans/lentils/millet/spelt". From this we may work out how much food we need for various type of work.

Exercise : Suppose a person has to do 2 hours of desk work, 6 hours of medium work comparable to house work, and 1 hours of strenuous heavy work. How much energy does he require ?

Thus he needs 1890 Kcal.

(Note : The above figure is for normal weather, for extremely cold weather, you should increase the intake.)

The intake of most Westerners would normally exceed this figure, but not for Chinese.

Hence, if you want to continue to work years after years, your energy intake must equal to your energy consumption. You may have "deficit" for a few days or months, but eat a little more during holidays or festivals to compensate. In short, you should have energy balance over the years.

Usually, our body would store reserve energy in our fat and tissue. Jesus fasted 40 days and night without food nor water (so did Moses, Elijah), this is a human record! Many people survived earthquake burial for more than a week without food nor water. Do not expect you can survive 40 days like Jesus or Moses, but you can survive at least a week if you do not panic. (Fear and panic will cause chemical deterioration in your body, and waste away your body unnecessarily.)

Also, remember Jesus' teachings : " do not be anxious about your life, what you shall eat or what you shall drink, nor about your body, what you shall put on. " [Mt 6:25-33]
"If any one comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me, cannot be my disciple. For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it ? Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, saying, 'This man began to build, and was not able to finish.' Or what king, going to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and take counsel whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand ? And if not, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends an embassy and asks terms of peace. So therefore, whoever of you does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple." [Luke 14:26-33]

(Note : (1) if you are an employer, and you want your faithful employees to work for you, make sure he/she has energy balance.
(2) For Chinese, you need not increase your intake of rice, you may eat Western type of food - bread, biscake, chocolate, ... Visit the supermarket or bakery, find out what appeals to your appetite, and make up your energy balance.)
